REVOLUTIONARY WAR MAJOR BATTLES - Most of our ancestors were in state militias, a few in the Continental forces and some were Tories.  A Tory was an American upholding the cause of the British Crown.  It is estimated that 25% of Americans were Tories.  Most were exiled after the war.  Militia enlistments were short.  The same person might appear in 2 musters and with different companies.

MEXICAN WAR

SPANISH AMERICAN WAR

1898 21 April Congress declared war on Spain.
  1 May Battle of Manila Bay.  Spanish fleet (10 ships) destroyed.  Manila blockaded.
  28 May Santiago (harbor) Cuba blockaded.
  22 Jun 15,000 US troops landed near at Daquiri (near Santiago).  Lt. John J. Pershing, LTC Teddy Roosevelt and Col Leonard Wood among them.
  1 July Gen. Shafter launched attack on Santiago.  US suffered 1,600 casualties.  Spanish fleet destroyed.  
  17 July Santiago surrendered. 
  25 July MG Nelson A. Miles invaded Puerto Rico with no resistance.
  13 Aug Manila occupied.
  10 Dec Treaty signed in Paris.  Cuba granted freedom.  Philippines, Guam and Puerto Rico ceded to the U.S.
