Barnes, administrator of Simon Braswell, "Simon Braswell, a lunatic" died sometimes in the spring of 1827 possessed of "six negroes which is not a negro apiece for each heir at law" and the only way to equally divide the estate is to sell negroes and divide the proceeds, Aug. Ct. 1828, signed Orren D. Cohoon, Peoples Hill (X), Elizabeth (Braswell), James ( ), Lemmon Ruffin (X), Bight Ruffin (X), Gray Ruffin, Benjamin Ruffin (X), Permenter Braswell, Winny Williams (X), Zadoc Braswell. ORDER TO SHERIFF to collect $7.50 from the property of Orren D. Cohoon, Peoples Hill, Elizabeth Braswell, Lamon Ruffin, Right Ruffin, Gray Ruffin, Benjamin Ruffin, Permenter Braswell, Winny Williams and Zadock Braswell and others, the amount that was adjudged and taxed in the suit in which they petitioned and won, signed 16 Mar. 1829.

Braswell is the proper person to administer estate but she has renounced, estate is valued at about $250 and said Eliza J. Braswell, Charles B. Braswell and Lillian May Braswell are heirs; Lillian appears to be infant under 21 and a resident of Edgecombe Co., signed 15 Dec. 1879.


Jesse Clark estate Records of 1807, Dower land laid off for Mary Clark, widow of Jesse Clark, beginning in Joseph Prices cornfield then south 55 east 125 poles to an old oak then along Joel Battle’s line 40 poles then north 81 west to Joseph Prices line then along Joseph Prices line to the first station, 21 Jan. 1809, signed Elijah Horn, Willie Horn, Moses Price, Nathaniel Brake (X), Richard Bloxsom, Charles Barnes (X), Elisah Vann, Joseph Price (X), Jesse Brake (X), Permenter Braswell, John Pittman (I), Joseph Horn.
